Making the future possible: Storify

This year our Valorisation Conference held on 13 June was a huge success and we thank those of you who were able to join us with your feedback and contribution.

The conference was a chance to celebrate the learning journey of the Lifelong Learning and Youth in Action Programmes over the past seven years.

As part of the event, we asked organisations from across the programmes to share their #EUjourney with us.

To share the story of the conference with you we have created a Making the future possible Storify which you can now view here!

2011 Call Grundtvig and Leonardo Partnerships Final Report Seminar – a celebration of achievements

With the deadline for the final reports for the 2011 fast approaching, the Leonardo and Grundtvig Small Scale Co-operation teams organised a seminar designed to help beneficiaries along the way. Leonardo and Grundtvig Project Administrators, Magdalena Dushanova and Maria Miranda, put together this blog about the day to help prepare and advise on final report content.

Celebrating success
The aim of the Final Report Seminar was simple: to provide support and guidance to UK partners and explain the purpose of the final report and the impact it could have on future partnerships. Over 90 people attended the event held at Austin Court in Birmingham on 18 June which included presentations from members of the Leonardo and Grundtvig teams on:

-What the report should cover

-How to use the European shared database

-How to disseminate the success of projects through different media

Making the future possible: here and now

This year’s Valorisation Conference celebrated the learning journey of both the Youth in Action and Lifelong Learning Programmes over the past seven years and looked to the future. So with the new programme recently announced we invited one of our exhibitors to talk about their #EUjourney past and present.

BMokLuSCAAA-2BmJohn Latham and Susan Keenan from Lancaster and Morecambe College  (LMC) took part in our exhibition to show the real outputs and outcomes from projects in a visual way. We asked them to take part in a Q and A session about their experiences showcasing three projects.

Q. What messages did you want to share about the projects at the conference and how did you go about it?

The Enercities serious computer game

A. “We exhibited three projects: Firstly EnerCities; the serious computer game for young people to experience energy scenarios by expanding virtual cities dealing with energy consumption and pollution. Secondly Transfer of Innovation project SCOGATT, which looks at using serious computer games as a teaching tool and finally TOI project Lit.Voc, a set of cross border literacy tools for the workplace. We collected project outcomes, reports and visual materials to make a celebration of all the wonderful experiences we and the LMC students have had on our European journey.”

Leonardo TOI Final Report Seminar

On the 25 June we welcomed the 2011 Leonardo Transfer of Innovation (TOI) projects to sunny Birmingham to present information about how to complete and submit their Final Reports later this year. TOI supports UK vocational education and training (VET) organisations, staff and learners to work together with European partners to improve training, skills and employability and for many projects the event was also a last opportunity to network and celebrate some of the successes from the 2011 call.

Laura Contrasti from the TOI team was there on the day and shares her highlights of the Seminar!

Exploring the concept of social pedagogy

Welcome to the world of social pedagogy – where theory meets practice and holistic well being and child-centred relationships lie at the heart of every aspect of work. Organisation ThemPra’s core aim is to support the development of a UK approach to social pedagogy to ensure children and young people to be able to live a self-determined life full of happiness, opportunities and positive relationships with other members of society. ThemPra recently exhibited their Leonardo project based around the concept at our Valorisation conference. So just over a month after the event we thought we’d take a look to find out more about social pedagogy from the roots upwards.

The concept

Despite the term sounding a little complex, it really refers to a holistic approach to education. To help explain the concepts that describe how it can be applied, ThemPra has come up with the social pedagogy tree:

ThemPra's social pedagogy tree

Mobility Start-Up seminar 2013

The 2013 mobility Start-Up Seminar took place in Birmingham with experienced promoters and a special panel discussion on successfully managing a mobility project.

The event was a chance to meet and network with other successful mobility promoters whilst meeting some of the Ecorys LLP team at the same time. The seminar also provided guidance on managing your grant and  monitoring and record keeping requirements.

Whether you were able to attend or not, you can view all the documents from the event online including the 2013 summary doucment which gives an overview of the current projects represented at the Start-up Seminar last month, designed to help you identify relevant projects for your organisation. It also provides a breakdown of the projects grouped by vocational field.

The LLP team go back to school.

As you may have noticed on twitter, last week the team visited a primary school in Worcester to take part in a very special activity: sports day. Organised as part of the Ecorys Company volunteering scheme, we thought we would share the team’s experiences – from coping with English weather to managing the most important event in the (Northwick Manor Primary School) sporting calendar…

“Why are there grown-ups here?”

This was the first and most pertinent question asked by the wonderful pupils of Northwick Manor Primary School. More than 30 of the LLP team took part in this year’s company volunteering day, which saw us make the long coach journey south of our Birmingham office. The aim was to make the best day possible for the pupils whilst developing our team working skills at the same time.
